John Taylor Gatto said more Americans could read before the U.S. implemented public schools and some communities were so opposed the government sent armies to force children to attend. He said that instead of attending high school, kids should be assigned to different apprenticeships, so that by the time they graduate, they should know what they want to do with their life, and have the skills to do so.
