The “ability to read” isn’t the average 6th grade skill we see in adults today. The point about adults being able to read presupposes a number of items.
Literacy is again more than that.
Today we live in a world where Ivy League matriculants haven’t read or heard of, The Iliad.
Live in a backwater and expect that your children are forever hindered.
It’s like hurricane preps on the coast. Your house survived. But not your neighbors. Not any of them. No insurance, either.
