Small update.

1: The car has been sitting in the garage since late October for rust repair on 3 out of 4 rear quarter panels and both wheel arches. I'm incapable of finishing the work while weather's too cold for panel bonding adhesive, rust converter and paint. I have other things on the plate, too, so I'm not working on it much if at all right now.

2: Using the Amsoil Heavy Duty 5w40 dropped MPG from a common to 20 to a common 18 even after using fuel additives, removing the roof rack and reinstalling the air dam. This individual 5w40 (which is 15.2 on the hot viscosity scale) did stop oil from blowing past piston rings when I put the car in 1st gear.

3: Amsoil makes a 10w40 that's Diesel compatible and yet it's thinner than their Heavy Duty 5w40 despite looking thicker on the label; it's 14.6 on the hot viscosity scale, a bit thinner than Shell T6 5w40.
