I'd go down the route of a Webasto ThermotopC its a water heater diesel fired. Plumb it into the waterworks, it will heat the water to 80deg C in about 20mins. A lot of modern diesels have them in Europe for this exact reason. They use a tiny amount of fuel about 0.2L per hour.

I have one on my 80 landcruiser with remote activation, I've even rigged it up to run the heater fan & all runs off a leisure battery, all diy fitted, utterly brilliant. Mine came from a Rover 75 but they come in BMW's, Landrovers & all sorts.
