I had failure of the lower front valance on my S-10 when I forgot it wasn't in 4WD and the sun came out. I went into a turn too fast and spun into a snow/ice bank. I repaired it the best I could, sort of looked like a golf ball hit me, and wasn't that bad.
Yep, your chin spoiler is only as strong as what it's attached to.
Maybe using expanding foam in cavity areas would help, and also distributing the stress more evenly with runner strips of metal at the attachment points.
