It does not sound like you were able to do any A v. B testing between your Bonneville racer decklid extension and rear window Kammback.
What were your seat of the pants impressions?
In the past I've discouraged attempting a Kammback on Mercedes sedans because the wind tunnel images show they somehow worked out some good detailing in that area.
The Cd numbers are pretty good considering it is a sedan.
My two cents, I like the function and looks of the decklid extension better.
Regarding a rear spoiler, good for down-force, bad for Cd.
I would not try without first doing the front chin splitter you mentioned.
