I think people need to be very honest with themselves about EVs regardless. I.e., if the goal is to save money, a new one is NEVER going to be the best option. Depreciation blows that argument out of the water for at least the first 3 years if not longer - depending upon the age of the vehicles one already owns and would presumably sell.
I've decided that I will never buy another car new for that reason. And TBH about my own purchase, I didn't get the i3 because it was the 'best' deal, BUT, happiness of the driver counts. (Even if that is vicarious via the conduit of marriage.
