Target speed was 55 MPH. Depending on elevation I did spend some time between 60 and 65 MPH, but only if my MPG was at 90+. On some places where the highway wasn't busy, the speed limit was 65, and the hills necessitated it, I allowed myself to get down to 50 MPH.

Through the mountains I generally followed semi trucks. They slow down to 40s going up the super steep inclines, so I followed suit. Usually was between 40 and 55 MPG going up the mountains, and 100+ down. A few hills I had to almost floor it in 3rd (30 MPG) to get up. No IMA. For comparison:

Mountain passes:
Insight: 40-55 MPG
Prius: 20-30 MPG
Sienna: 15-20 MPG

Super steep mountain passes:
Insight: 30-35 MPG
Prius: 15-20 MPG
Sienna: 10-15 MPG

Speed got down to ~45 MPH near the crest of the mountains, and as high as [insert incriminating speed] MPH going downhill.

Of course you could swap in a K20 and six speed, still get decent mileage(for a 12-13 sec car)
A 6 speed would give me more linear, closer gears for driving, plus a taller 6th gear. The Insight's final drive would have to swap into the transmission in order for me to consider it.

K-swap, not a consideration. Too much money, and, well, if I wanted a fast car I would've gotten something different (no disrespect to you Ecky!!).

A HCH1's 1.3L is a consideration, maybe, if I get tired of the Insight's speed, or lack thereof. But if I can drive through the mountains on the tiny 1.0L and get 73.7 MPG, I don't see why.

The transmission swap would be for more linear gearing + better FE. My thinking is, the more gears, the closer the spacing, the less wear on the clutch, the easier to drive, and the better the fuel economy if the final drive is tall.

CRZ's gearing:
1: 3.143
2: 1.870
3: 1.303
4: 1.054
5: 0.854
6: 0.689
FD: 4.294

With the Insight's final drive (3.21 I think?) RPMs will be reduced by 25%. The Insight's 5th gear of 0.71 will be replaced by a 6th gear of 0.689, which is slightly smaller (60 RPMs lower at my normal highway speeds)

2015 Fit's 6th gear is too short (0.727). 2.0L Civic's 6th gear is 0.686, so it's a consideration, but it seems like that would be more expensive and require more fabrication.

I mean, this is all more "dreaming" at this point.
