Got both a 2013 automatic AND 2016 manual Elantra(same color, too). As you state for your 2017, our 2016 manual is lower geared than the 2013 automatic. In overall driving, their MPG are similar, as the EPA indicates. Just due to their gearing, MAYBE the automatic could get better MPG at higher speed on the highway. But the manual appears very efficient & able to get better MPG, once speeds are less than 55-60MPH & sweeps the automatic away on slow backroads, if the manual can maintain 6th gear. With the lower gearing AND no automatic losses, the manual has spritely acceleration, & is favored on hills & mountain passes. Love both our automatic & manual transmissions..... altho the wife loves only the manual transmission.
