Either could work. Just make sure the frame is plenty strong. A neighbor motorized a classic frame and had the chain stay bend when the drive seized. A donor weed eater or chain saw could have a clutch and a trigger throttle. Clutches come in chain or cog belt configurations. Hilliard is a manufacturer here that sells drive train parts.
