@freebeard: I quite liked that Japanes take on Metropolis. Not the best anime movie I've ever watched, but certainly pretty good.
I have a copy of the original Lang... have got to get around to watching it someday. Thanks for the links to the others.

It's absolute trash. Paper thin plot. One-dimensional characters. Excuses to see bewbs. Awkward stubs of scenes that just randomly occur. And plot points that come from nowhere and go nowhere.
I absolutely adore it.

The problem with the new Star Wars movies is that "The Force Awakens" is an absolutely pixel-perfect rehash of "A New Hope" with different characters.
"The Last Jedi", on the other hand, tries to recreate "The Empire Strikes Back". Only it enrages the fanboys because "Mary Sue", and "That's not my Luke", and "Star Wars is supposed to be about Skywalkers!" and all manner of bro-flake bull**** (but worth watching in the theaters just to see/hear that last reaction and chortle with joy at the nerdrage). Still, many problems. The Casino Planet portion was inane, the space chase scene is hair-pulling idiocy for anyone with even a slight interest in space flight and battle tactics, and the final battle was a train wreck. On the bright side, the Kylon Ren - Luke - Rey storyline is very well done, and the Throne Room fight is the best saber battle I've watched in any of the movies. Yes, that's including Rey Parks' climactic battle in "The Phantom Menace".
Both are deeply flawed movies, but a million times better than watching the droll political maneuvering and the inexcusably wooden acting of the prequel trilogy.

If it's still showing, catch "Into the Spiderverse", seriously. Probably, hands down, the best superhero movie I've ever watched. Great characters, great story arcs, great action and production design so good that you could print out screen shots, stitch them together, and sell it as a plus-priced hardbound graphic novel.
It genuinely feels like an 80's or 90's comic brought to life. The writing is top-notch and the art is ugh... argh... wow... I am considering buying a BluRay simply to take screenshots for my wallpapers.
Also like how it subverts the Spiderman mythology while staying absolutely true to it. Highly recommended over "I'm 100% better now because my new robot body has bewbs" and "We did this prequel to hype people up for the next Avengers movie and to piss off men-boys".
