I couldn't get into Citizen Kane when I saw it at 18. I'll have to try again considering it's the best movie of all time. Perhaps I'd be more impressed if I had grown up watching movies at certain camera angles, and then see the more dramatic angles pioneered in Kane.

Similarly, viewers will think John Carter of Mars or Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets are more of the same-old-same-old when actually the source material had been strip-mined mercilessly for years before they were brought to the screen.
