And most of the start up bypass oil comes from the valve guides. Oil is like water, needs to flow from high to low.

Start up is rich and until the cats have been running for a couple of minutes, combustion byproducts tend to coat them.

If you're clogging, suspect too rich or no long drives at running temps.
