It may be slightly different now 1 year later but this EIA chart from 2017 shows wind energy in the USA has finally surpassed wood at 2.3 % of total energy.

Solar is .66%

Let's keep the discussion true people.

*I wanted to limit the conversation to 'domestic production',as it reflects what we produce here at home.
*US electrical production is lower than what we consume.
*US natural gas production falls short of what we consume.
*US coal production is short of consumption.
*US petroleum production is short of consumption.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*When 'renewable' is criticized for it's inability to meet 'demand',well,we'd have to say the same for Petroleum,Natural Gas,Coal, and 'Conventional' electricity. They can't meet demand either. And haven't been.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*And considering that we'll never have to have the US Seventh Fleet escort shipments of sunshine or wind to the United States ,our national security situation looks a bit brighter.
OPEC can't embargo the sun or wind, and throw us into another energy crisis,as in past times.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
We also don't have to dig a hole in the ground, extract, then ship sunlight or wind 1,500-miles to a power plant on a railroad,dead-heading 1,500-miles on the return trip, back to the hole in the ground, with an empty train to get more.
We'll never see $140-barrel electricity either.
If you want a 100-mpg car,you can buy 'em today. They won't have pistons though.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't see a problem meeting America's energy 'needs' with renewable.
I do see a major hurdle meeting America's 'wants.'
And I think Americans should learn how to differentiate between the two.
