Yup! Seeing the changes you can make just by tweaking your driving habits is what got me hooked.

That's not bad. My nearest analogues would be the '00 Passat wagon my Pa had when I was a teenager. He was by no means a hypermiler, but with its V6 and all wheel drive, we took it skiing often. He would typically get around 28mpg with skis on top, up and down the Sierras, and with cruise usually set to 63mph. Commute driving was closer to 20.

My mother in law has an '06 Volvo V70 with a non-turbo 5-cylinder. I haven't driven it much but it's a low-mid 20s car around town.

Averaging over 30 in the Avalon seems like a good, solid place to me.
