For me it's the A2 3L hands down. Not only for the mileage figures, but it's a 4 doors and have quite a lot of interior space too and a lovely low Cd.
It is also all aluminum, which doesn't rust, and that's a huge advantage here in the great white north.
Things can change till then, but as soon as the 1999 model turns 15 years, I'm importing one to Canada. 3L models are very rare, but the 1.4 liters are pretty common and still get very decent mileage.
The car is rated a 78 MPG US with the small 1.2 and will make 100 MPG US for sure if hypermiled. I just pulled an 80 MPG out of my 1.9 TDI so 100 could be attainable easily with the A2.
