FCVs have large fuel cells and radiators and a small battery. They need large fuel cells to produce enough energy to climb a hill, which would deplete that battery. They need large radiators because fuel cells are notoriously heat sensitive.
A plugin FCV could have much smaller fuel cells, a smaller hydrogen tank (size matters a lot in pressurized vessel costs) and 'normal' sized radiators. That alone would free up enough space for quite some extra battery storage. And electricity will always be cheaper than hydrogen.
