My first thought turned out to be an early post- an '85 to '88 MR2 would be a perfect Prius conversion.

Next would be a Tesla drive unit in a VW Vanagon. Plenty of room for both the drive unit and the battery pack, though the battery pack would end up inside the vehicle on the floor, raising it by four inches or so.
