I recall posting a link to something about making electricity from the material dredged up from bays and tidewater. I'm not going to search but it seems like it wasn't from bacteria. Possibly dense thermal depolymerization.

There was also getting electricity from flowing (not pooled hydro) water.

Personally, I think someone should Bore a Tunnel from Death Valley to the Pacific which would enable solar algae tanks for brewing liquid fuel.
