Sounds like procrastination. I busy myself with projects at my parents too.
My dad procrastinates by gardening, placing higher importance on getting the corn in on time than what to do about the old house that is crumbling with a bunch of junk inside, or getting various vehicles and equipment into running order. But hey, I don't need to grab corn at the grocery store during a 1 month period in August!
