This discussion reminds me of one I'm having on another forum where the hypothesis was that if Dems controlled more political office in 2016, EVs would have really taken off.

My point was that even if 75% of EV enthusiasts were Dems, the fact that only 1% of all people are enthusiasts (what's 75% of 1%) means we'd roughly be where we are today with EV penetration. Just because the majority of one niche group of people tend to associate with a particular group doesn't mean that the group tends to reciprocate the same values.

In other words, if 75% of all skinhead racists (I don't know what the marker for modern hardcore racist is) identify with the Republican party, that doesn't mean that Republicans identify with racism.
