It's worse. I still remember when they added 'under God' to the Pledge of Allegiance. At the time I though that had been knocked out by the Founding Fathers, not some socialist minister in the 1800s.
The Balsch version went "We give our heads and hearts to God and our country; one country,
one language, one flag!" That's worryingly close to "One People, One Nation, One Leader". The difference is that the Pledge is to the flag, not the country or leader.
My new word for today (
