I doubt the petroleum companies are shorting Tesla like that. I'll give you some better examples of market manipulation:

Jim Chanos shorts a bunch of Tesla then goes on CNBC and says the stock is worth zero.

Elon Musk gets on Twitter and says he has funding secured to go private. Not true.
