Not sure if I would get an eUp! drivetrain if I were willing to make an electric Type II. Possibly I'd be tempted to try a pair of motor-generators from some BAS-Hybrid at the rear end with torque vectoring in order to emulate a differential, and even though there will be enough room for a bank of batteries inside the stock engine bay and that would improve traction on loose terrain, at least one extra motor-generator on the front-end even if it required a differential wouldn't be out of question at all.
