Project Iceworm

Sooner or later global warming will be undeniable for even the staunchest naysayers, as its effects become ever more obvious.

Take Project Iceworm for instance.
A brilliant idea; a vast ICBM launch site with thousands of tunnels under Greenlands ice sheet.
Problem was that Greenland isn't US property but Danish (at the time) and the Danes were not supposed to know, so it doubled as a research facility.
It was powered by a portable nuclear plant.

Then it turned out that the ice was not as stable as was hoped, so the whole project had to be abandoned, polluted and all. But snowfall would build up on top and bury it eternally.

Sadly, global warming creates more melt than snowfall can compensate for and the base will get fully exposed before too long. Meanwhile, the Danish and Greenlanders found out all about it.
