It's not simply a matter of a higher productivity with corn crops compared to sugarcane, you need to remember not every region is suitable to sugarcane, while there are many varieties of corn that are better suited to different climates.

With so many gas-guzzlers there, I'm sure it would become harder to sell. Not even the cold start would be all that hard to overcome...

Corn-based ethanol ends up being somehow the closest approach, as it ends up decreasing the amount of methane released by beef cattle.

It does surprise me that some businesses that provide meat-replacement items for vegetarians didn't try using DDG corn protein as a cheaper alternative to soy concentrated protein.
