why 1850-1900

Why not run the clock back as far as the data will allow?
I don't think you can have a rational discussion about climate change with out getting emotional.
The atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration has been constant,from 11,000 years ago,at the beginning of the 'Holocene',to around 1880,when anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions grew to significant levels.It's a perfect reference datum.
