I think the C-max has even less interior volume than the Prius, but it's still very usable. My friend that I bought one for just packed up (almost) everything she owns and moved to Montana.
I'm a big fan of the utility of both the Prius and C-max. I advocate for the Fusion hybrid/Energi, but it would certainly have much less utility than either the Prius or C-max.
