The repair (bake in the oven at 350 F) I did of the digital processing board on my plasma TV finally failed, as was expected. Rather than subject the entire board to the oven again, I decided to try a heat gun repair. First attempt on a low setting for 1 minute did not fix it. I switched to high setting and in about 15 seconds caused 2 caps to explode off the board.
Now no video displays regardless of digital or analog input. I could replace the 2 blown caps which would be cheap and it might work, or it might not. Even if everything works, the repair would not hold up for more than a couple months. A replacement board if one can even be found would be about $150. I'm not sure a 60" plasma is even worth $150 these days. I'd hate to toss the TV considering plasma isn't made anymore, and it has a beautiful picture.
In either case, an LCD TV is likely in the cards during Black Friday. My chance to go 75-85". I've been prepping my wife for that reality by constantly mentioning it.
