Neither of the articles connects the humpback body with lift-off top. Having watched from afar, (Parts Obsolete*) and their outlaw 356s, I've never seen that before.
You can get a 23-window bus body in steel for $17K. Imagine the same in aluminum with the Tesla small-block rear-wheel drive.

At the time it was introduced the Thunder Ranch RSK was considered at least equivalent to the original. The frame was by Chuck Beck and it was powdercoated and bonded to the fiberglass tub. I think it had good torsional rigidity.
