If people want safety they wouldn't walk anywhere. Here in the UK 59 pedestrians die for every 1 billion journey miles, whereas only 53 cyclists fall off their perch for the same distance.

And then there's a problem with car safety - it ain't very safe for people who aren't inside the car, hence most of the aforementioned pedestrian and cyclist deaths. Indeed, since its inception the motor car has killed more people than the gun - anyone wanting to use one for its safety attributes hasn't thought the entire thing through.
