Climate change got me wondering which latitudes have the most land area. I figure if much of land area is above, say 40 degrees N, some more warming might be beneficial.

Seems most of N America, Europe, and Asia would benefit.



Then there's this distribution of people by latitude. Interesting that the majority of people want to live where it's bloody hot.



Here's a composite image with older data from 2000:



88% of the world's population lives in the northern hemisphere. The population midpoint is 24 degrees North, or near to the southernmost point in Key West. Excluding the population in the southern hemisphere, the population midpoint is 27 degrees North, or roughly Tampa Bay.

Everything in blue averages freezing or colder


I found it interesting that Lima is near the equator, but it feels like home (45th parallel) temperature wise.
