A 3D printed part would be sintered. A mold taken from a 3D printed pattern would be cast. Maybe 3D print wax and bury it in sand?

Sintered cast or forged, further options would be cryogenic tempering (changes the grain pattern and shrinks the part some %) or surface treatment (irradiation or whatever, anything but pink/magenta powder coat )
Decades ago, about four universities, working together, were able to model a closed,a cubic-octet 'foam',which achieved the theoretical upper boundary for elastic strength in all modulii. With laser-sintered metal 3-D printing they can be manufactured.I believe the Volkswagen Bugatti successor to the Veyron features a component of sintered-metal 'bird-bone',based upon this theoretical work.It will be 'transformative.' Extremely interesting!
