Gosh, that's a lot of development of little practical value. I do wonder how different F1 would be now if Colin Chapman had just included some compliance in his wheel-hub wing mounts, so they wouldn't fall off and get banned. I also wonder what would have happened if the teams had gone for vertical wings and direct side force instead of downforce. If moveable elements had been banned, large slip angles would have been needed on the tires, as in the good old days. The NASCAR boys said that they couldn't spin a Dodge Daytona, due to the wide vertical wing supports.
