Not even historically. Just being in the US now means you've got it good. Our homeless have cell phones and cellular internet. As Scott Adams says, there are indoor people, and there are outdoor people. I find it interesting how libertarian we are with insane or addicted people.
As far as pushing limits goes, I'm far more likely to do something that "pushes the limits" in a catastrophic way. On a daily basis, I'd say my wife makes more minor errors or suboptimal decisions, but I make the huge mistakes. I did almost slide off a snowy cliff in the truck, and I have flipped the quad over backwards (twice). I'm considering trying my hand at market timing, which is pretty foolish.
