As long as it doesn't become mandatory to go all-electric, or ICEs get so heavily taxed to the point of becoming unsuitable at all, I could really care less about the politics. But all the concerns surrounding range-anxiety won't go away so soon...

I'm not so familiar with heat pumps. When it comes to heating, IIRC some electric cars in the '90s relied on a gasoline-fueled (or Diesel-fueled) heater instead.
