Wisconsin Transfering Expired June Dated Plates

I have an old expired (but valid) set of June license plates from a junked car.

My daily driver is out for the count until I get parts but due to our states fee structure I do not want to transfer plates off it (hybrid) to my backup car in the garage (not hybrid) for a one month or less jaunt.

Any ideas what would happen if I transfer an expired June plate to a car in May?
Would I have to pay for 2 full years for 12.5 months?

I haven’t been able to get ahold of the dmv (busy signal for days)
but I do know they banned prorated plates.

If they would allow me to transfer the plate but not renew it until June I should be golden, I would get a full year of use and could use the car whenever I want or need to

Let me know if anyone has been down this path.

Thanx
Ryan.
