Wisconsin did more than ease the restrictions, and a little over 2 weeks ago. And now we're seeing record cases and deaths. That's from the medical journal DUH. The real question, given that the originally stated (and most reasonable) goal of all the lockdowns was to buy time and flatten the curve, is can they sustain it? The hospital 20 miles from me has 6 ICU beds. Let's be stupidly optimistic and say people only need a week on a ventilator before they're magically better- that means one new bad case a day will overwhelm the hospital. Which is in a city of over 30,000, and the surrounding region's population nearly doubles in the summer.
We've got to do it, but it sucks. Me, I'm just thrilled with the idea that it's been spreading faster than we thought an most cases are asymptomatic. That, and the news that surfaces are bad at transmitting it. That's cool.
