Once again my plans and schemes were foiled. I posted the pictures and one word from my phone, then went to expand on my laptop.
D'oh! I was thinking south-facing!
The north-facing side was the easiest to access and closest to where I sit. It was 1306 when I took these pictures. South side:

Is targetting the south and then west sides thinking outside of the box? That seems like common sense, not that it is necessarily common practice.
My first thought was that the fence that I built would provide shade, but clearly not when I need it most. What is left of the fence on the other side doesn't, either. The small eaves provide a surprising amount of shade, but if I wanted to spend money on eave implants, would that be better spent on insulation?
