If you're in Illinois, deep in the rustbelt, anything for $2,000 is likely a rustbucket. Either browse ads from the southern states or up your budget. If you can bump it up to $3K, I have this Jetta TDI I drove down to Florida a few weeks ago getting over 65 mpg:
