OTRs theoretical is somewhere between 12-16 but the cost of labor is assumed to exceed the cost of fuel on that end of the spectrum

Fuel economy is highly dependent on terrain, traffic, type of trailer and CGVW. I don't believe anyone saying they were getting 10-12 mpg hauling a full load decades ago.
Coast to Coast (East to West) the Freightliner New Cascadia did 10 mpg at 76,000 CGVW. The older Cascadia Evolution did 9 mpg on the same trip.
The Super Truck 1 (2015) did 12.2 mpg @ 65,000 lbs CGVW driving 65 mph on a interstate trip in Texas. That truck included a lot of impractical tech from a cost / benefit perspective. That is what happens when you have a $80 million project to produce one truck. However, some of the tech carried over to production vehicles.
It will be interesting to see what Super Truck 2 does in 2021
