Gordon Murray's blower
The latest ROAD and TRACK Magazine's cover story is the T-50.
1) the 8.5-kW blower requires 30-horsepower.
2) that's 22.38 kilowatts.
3) for a mechanical efficiency of 37.98%.
4) we can assume 100% drive efficiency ( direct-coupled).
5) if we're charitable, we could allow the Cosworth V-12 engine a 40% thermal efficiency ( we're not talking about a gen-3 Toyota Atkinson cycle ).
6) in that case, the 30-bhp, would require 75-hp worth of Btus to power it.
7) to get 33-pounds of thrust.
8) whether or not the fan is powered momentarily off the battery, to unload the engine, the energy shortfall must ultimately be made up from the gas tank.
