I have seen many different definitions of rocket stoves, but the features that all have had in common are:

1. Dedicated intake
2. Dedicated exhaust
3. Insulation

Observational surmise.

They invented the rocket stove 30 years ago in Cottage Grove. Here is their documentation:

I haven't reviewed this again but IIRC the defining characteristic of a rocket stove is the second burn that consumes the smoke.
