The better question is why I think I could do better.

Mostly it's a mental block. The last copy I bought, 2nd hand, of Photoshop doesn't work on my current system. I've tried Krita and some others but nothing clicks. My best bet is likely Greasepaint inside Blender, but that's where the mental block comes in. I've beat my head against the learning curve in 3D, so I'm leery of taking on the 2D side. Or the video compositing.
