Grab a Mitsubishi Mirage, it's closer to 1750 than 2400. Aero the hell out of it and work on tuning and gearing. They're relatively cheap and plentiful compared to 50s and 60s cars, so if you mess up something while hacking in a Harbor Freight diesel, it's only a small setback.
