What do you plan to use for material?
Curving the sides would stiffen them so it can be lighter. Extending the front radiused edge down to at least the seat could keep your sides warmer by reducing the wind buffeting [?]
How do you expect it to open? Could you get two fiberglass saddlebags and bolt them together?
