I was trying to figure out what the tank and seat were off of on the motorcycle frame...couldn't figure it out for the life of me...until someone posted a used '84 CM250 and I recognized the tank!

Well, now I know.

But why did they fit so well? They're two very different machines...

It became obvious when I pulled it in to my shop (better light) and started pulling unnecessary parts off...

For the tank rubber mounts:


And the seat/rear tank bolt:


I wouldn't have noticed the rough weld on the seat mount, if I wasn't looking for it after finding the janky - but effective - bolts welded for the tank's rubber mounts.

Someone was already on their way to making this thing in to a street cruiser.
