I've done some research into this topic and modified my hovercraft to suit, so I feel that I have first hand experience.
Acoustics is indeed what it is all about.
Also if you think about it, sound is energy so there are relationships to be explored.
In fact I just posted a link to a video where sound is studied in a wind tunnel for transition noise.
About the halfway mark, the young woman mentions it.
