Wipers stopped dead in the middle of the windshield about a week ago. Moved them back by hand...something obviously let go. Think the "too-long" driver's wiper slapping against the windshield frame probably didn't help any.
Was half expecting the other end of the linkage that comes off the motor to have popped off...it was the sloppiest of the two ends when I put the new bushing on. Nope. Was the new bushing end that popped off. Wasn't my modifications to make it fit the linkage that gave, either. Just popped off the motor's ball. It's back on now.
22" wiper was still slapping against the windshield frame, despite being adjusted as far down as it could go. So I borrowed a 20 from another car of mine. Nope. Settled for a new 19" i had on the shelf. Better, but still making some contact.
Only does it when the system voltage is at normal running voltage (14.2v), or on high. The momentum is what's carrying it, and presumably there's enough slop in the linkage that it doesn't hold it back from doing so at the end of the sweep. If it happen again (more like WHEN), I'll have to look at the other bushings and see if they can be replaced. Can't be bothered to go back in until then.
Before all that, though, I thoroughly cleaned the glass - inside and out - and then applied rain-X. Won't be much of an issue if it goes again. Won't be running the wipers half as much, so might take a while before it does.
Since I'm not tinkering much on her at the moment, and the pillars are thoroughly sealed up, I might as well park her on the street to encourage me to drive her more often.
