Do you want even more control over your coffee ?
You could buy a sapling already started .. or .. You can plant a few green coffee beans (which is the seed of the plant) to try and get them to sprout. Once started it will take a few years before a sapling matures enough to bear fruit.
I have a dwarf coffee tree as a house plant .. it would no doubt do better in some outside hawaii like climate , but here in RI it does grow and give 30-40 coffee cherries (2 beans inside each cherry) each year.
The tiny coffee flowers that come just before the cherries are also a nice cute touch. Only a very light (barely detectable to my nose) fragrance.
